Conor McGregor: The lightweight title picture going forward
Conor’s loss has been costly in terms of pushing him at the back of the line for a title shot. However, with the division looking like a shark tank, it’s impossible to justify giving him a shot after a loss.

Charles Oliveira, Justin Gaethje, and Michael Chandler are some divisional mainstays along with Dustin Poirier who have a valid claim to gold. Moreover, their individual success has been sustained over a long time at lightweight. Even Chandler, who’s only fought once in the UFC, has had a storied career history at Bellator’s lightweight division.

Poirier has recently come out and said he’s fine with allowing some other contenders to fight for vacant lightweight gold. This would leave ‘The Diamond’ completely open for the trilogy fight that McGregor’s looking for. Other than the viewership being massive for a McGregor bout, the paycheck is certainly an added incentive.
