Is Conor McGregor's involvement in Joshua vs. Dubois a game-changer for boxing?

Britain’s Daniel Dubois defeated his compatriot Anthony Joshua by KO in the fifth round of the fight for the IBF heavyweight world belt this Saturday at Wembley Stadium in London. The 27-year-old hometown favorite sent “AJ”—the  34-year-old and two-time world champion—to the canvas at the start of the fifth round of a fight that he dominated from start to finish in front of 96,000 spectators at Wembley, a record for a boxing match in Great Britain since World War II.

“Are you entertained?” asked Dubois to great applause from the audience of the mythical London stadium, whose incredible knockout caused those present to go into a frenzy, including the media UFC fighter, Conor McGregor. The Notorious got up from his seat to celebrate the action. McGregor surely loved the event, as one could clearly see from his animated reactions to everything happening. In fact, days after the event, McGregor has now posted arguably some of the best pictures from the event with his fiancé Dee Devlin as he had some kind words for the Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority (GEA) of Saudi Arabia, Turki Alalshikh.

On the occasion of the Riyadh season, Alalshikh had taken it upon himself to promote the major spectacle. As a result, the Notorious took to his caption to sing praise of the prominent Saudi Arabian figure. He wrote, “Riyadh Season Fight Night at Wembley Stadium! I had to see this in the flesh! What a spectacle! Bravo @turkialalshik 👑 #Visionary.” It is worth noting that the GEA Chairman has been highly interested in being a part of the realm of MMA.

Alashikh recently partnered up with Dana White to deliver the recently held UFC Noche. A grand spectacle that purely mesmerized anyone to watch it inside the Las Vegas Sphere. The Saudi Arabian figure has also engaged with Conor McGregor and has discussed potential fights and events in Saudi Arabia. As per some reports, he might also help the Notorious with his UFC contract. As a result, McGregor became a guest at the major fight in Wembley, one where he truly had Anthony Joshua’s back.

He further added that Joshua can still find his way back into the game. “Of course there is; he had it; he hit it back; he stood his ground, but then he moved forward and got hit. It’s just boxing. If you get caught, you get somebody. Of course he can come back!”

Well, it surely looks like McGregor believes in Joshua making his comeback. His fans surely are looking for him to do the same as well. Since McGregor has been out of the Octagon since 2021.
