Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson—Is this the fight we need or a disaster waiting to happen?

The entire world of martial arts began worrying about the heavyweight boxing legend, Mike Tyson, who swooped in to fight Jake Paul. However, Tyson’s health didn’t support him and he had to pull out of the fight owing to his ulcer flare-up. ‘The Problem Child’ was then pitted against Mike Perry, the BKFC champion, and rose victorious via a knockout. No doubt, it was something the fighting community never anticipated. But as Tyson gets ready once again to land against the YouTuber-turned-professional boxer on November 15, 2024, fans and veterans have begun to express their worries once again.

Being a fan of the former heavyweight champion, Joe Rogan has also revealed his worries about Tyson’s fight with Paul. After all, Tyson has turned 58 years old, with apparent problems linked to aging.

On episode #2191 of the Joe Rogan Experience, Russell Crowe and Rogan sat down together for a long talk. But things turned blue when the Hollywood star asked the UFC color commentator for his opinion on ‘The Baddest Man On The Planet’. Without wasting a single moment, Rogan said, “58 is 58, no matter what! No matter what you’re taking, and what they’re doing for you, and… You’re still 58.”

That, however, didn’t mean that Tyson was just like any other man in his 50s. The boxing legend was different, with the potential to send his targets to the dream realm with a single fist. However, with his growing age, issues with speed and endurance were imminent. Rogan questioned, “The thing is, can he catch a 28-year-old guy who’s a the top of his career, who’s winning legitimate boxing matches?”

Catching Paul inside the squared ring while battling old age was indeed a challenge for the former boxing champ. What put Paul so high on the pedestal are his wins over formidable fighters like Mike Perry, Tommy Fury, and Tyron Woodley. “I mean, he’s beating former UFC world champions like Tyron Woodley, you know. He had that very good fight with Tommy Fury, who’s a legitimate boxer, you know, which was a very good fight, you know. He beat up Mike Perry who’s a bare-knuckle champion. He’s a real fighter. He can fight,” Rogan claimed.

The concerns about Tyson’s health were palpable. Rogan continued, “And Mike has bad knees and his back’s bad. I don’t know what’s going on with him physically. It’s hard to tell from a guy just hitting pads. When he’s hitting those pads [voices the bams of Tyson’s padwork] he looks great. Like, yeah, if he can do that, if he can actually do that for 8 rounds, or 10 rounds, however long that fight is… Can he do that? I don’t know if he can do that.”

Nevertheless, willingness to fight someone like Tyson, even though he was in his late 50s enabled Paul to extract some praise from Rogan. But what would have happened had ‘The Problem Child’ faced Tyson while he was in his prime?

JRE host predicts the outcome of Paul’s fight with prime Tyson

During the conversation with a fellow comedian, Sebastian Maniscalco, on episode #2149 of the JRE, Rogan revealed his amazement at Tyson’s skills. Needless to say, ‘Iron Mike’ is indeed one of Rogan’s favorite fighters, and he has said so on multiple occasions. However, when Paul announced the fight with Tyson, the JRE host was left flabbergasted. He was in complete awe of the former Disney star.

Rogan said, “He’s really something special and the fact that he’s willing to fight Tyson even if Tyson’s 57, just the fact that he’s willing to actually take a chance at Mike Tyson not being able to do what he used to do, ‘cuz that’s what he’s doing the gamble is like, there’s not a chance in hell that Jake Paul would survive against the Mike Tyson that beat Marvis Frazier.”
