Nate Diaz recently got his shot at redemption beating Jorge Masvidal by unanimous decision. However, the joy was short-lived because he filed a lawsuit against the promotion of Fanmio, who put together the event. As per Diaz, the promotion broke an agreement with him about a $10 million payout to fight Jorge Masvidal as they did not keep the promise and paid only $1 million. The 39-year-old was visibly upset and the founder Solomon Engel in the southern district of Florida was sued for $9 million. ‘Big’ John McCarthy and Josh ‘The Punk’ Thomson sat down to discuss this, but there was a pretty interesting rift between the duo about who is right and wrong.
Diaz filed a lawsuit for being denied his dues and he did so in the U.S. District Court in Miami, alleging that Fanmio was unwilling to pay him the promised payment of $10 million. Thompson was all in for Diaz and even stated that he was good friends with both Diaz and his brother. However, he pointed out one contract breach that might go against the boxer.
“I don’t give a sh** I love, Nate Diaz, I love what they do for the combat sports industry, both of them,” The Punk mentioned while speaking on the ‘Weighing In’ podcast. However, he further offered an insight into another aspect saying, “Contractually Nate was supposed to do certain events to promote the fight and he didn’t. It’s in their contractually.”

This is when McCarthy visibly got agitated and asked him about the capacity of the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. After knowing that the stadium having a capacity of 18,000 was filled during the fight, Big John declared Diaz to be innocent, as he believed that the fighter had done his part properly.
Thompson, however, continued backing the promotion as he argued, “My point is that there was a contract written and he was supposed to honor it. He did not honor it. Look UFC had the same problems with him. So to say that we are surprised.” McCarthy refused the claims stating that UFC did pay Diaz his desired amount and Diaz was even paid $2 million by UFC just for showing up to fight Conor McGregor.
However, there is also news that the Diaz vs Masvidal fight did a gate of $1.26 million per CSAC, and only 13,767 tickets were sold. On top of that, only One $5,000 ticket was sold, and no tickets worth $3,500 were sold. Notably, as many as 14 tickets worth $2500 tickets were sold, while 6,057 tickets worth $25 tickets were purchased for the event. So there is not much that Fanmio can give to Diaz.

The CEO Solomon Engel has also denied of the claims made by the boxer as in a statement he mentioned, “In fact, Diaz has already been paid seven figures in connection with the fight. I look forward to resolving this dispute through the appropriate process and am confident that justice will prevail.” Meanwhile, ‘Big’ John McCarthy and Josh ‘The Punk’ Thomson aren’t the only UFC stars to address the issues as Michael Bisping also came up with his thoughts regarding the law-suit.

The fighter claimed that he got just 10% of the contractor amount for the fight, allegedly because of the promoter’s marital problems. Fanmio’s CEO was worried that his wife might divorce him, so Solomon Engel planned to cover up his losses with the money that was promised to the Stockton native. There is also news that the financial situation of Fanmio is not good and this could prove problematic for Diaz.

“Winning a lawsuit is one thing. Collecting from a lawsuit is very, very different. The amount of people that get paid when they even get a judgment or an award is very, very low, I believe,” ‘The Count’ said on his ‘Believe You Me’ podcast. He also mentioned that there are a lot of financial headaches that come with filing lawsuits because it is not cheap and Fanmio would also have to pay a fee, which is going to make them suffer more.
