UFC welterweight Colby Covington spoke to Helen Yee in an exclusive interview at his training ground, MMA Masters. The Division one All-American from Oregon State had plenty to say about the fight game and his fellow competitors. Covington has been on the sidelines for a while now and has been watching the sport move along gradually.
He went in on a former rival, Ben Askren, who was once an integral part of the welterweight division. Askren retired from the sport back in 2019 and is just days away from making his comeback against Jake Paul. ‘Funky’ Ben will make his boxing debut at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta in a highly anticipated bout.

Colby Covington grinds his gears on Jake Paul
‘Chaos’ was asked to chime in on the aforementioned match-up that has the entire combat sports community entrenched in speculation. Covington was surprisingly forthcoming with his praise for Askren, despite the disdain he’s showcased in the past. What’s more, he made it a point to rip into YouTuber-turned boxer Jake Paul and undermined his ability.
“I think he will [beat Jake Paul] I think he’s going to put that pressure on him. If he uses the clinch and ties him up and gets him tired, there’s no doubt he’s got a better gas tank than Jake Paul, some little YouTuber. The kid’s a complete joke, he’s an embarrassment to society, he’s an embarrassment to MMA and boxing world in general and I hope Ben goes out there and shuts his mouth.”
Jake Paul’s association with Colby Covington’s rival Jorge Masvidal could very well come in as a reason for his disparaging comments. However, when it comes to Colby Covington, it’s truly hard to narrow it down as he’s virtually risen up the ranks of stardom by using his mouth to tee off on other combatants.
Despite Paul’s inexperience in the fight game, it’s becoming hard to deny that he’s pulling in many eyeballs. Even die-hard fans of the sport are excited to tune in and watch him do battle against a tested athlete. However, if Colby Covington is to be believed, the boxing match will end rather decisively in favor of Askren.
