‘The Gypsy King’ has yet again established his dominance in the world of boxing. The WBC heavyweight champion retained his title against Dillian Whyte. After the match, Tyson Fury hinted at retiring from boxing. However, it is for a fact that Fury is not going away without taking on UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in an MMA-boxing hybrid fight.

Francis Ngannou’s coach, Dewey Cooper, recently revealed a master plan to set up a neutral fight between him and Tyson Fury.

While appearing on The Schmo podcast, Coach Dewey Cooper revealed proposed terms for a Francis Ngannou-Tyson Fury fight.

When asked about his opinion on rules of the fight, he said, “Let me answer this one. boxing fight, MMA gloves… but instead of four ounce, eight ounce MMA gloves in a cage. Not to be an octagon, has to be a cage… we meet halfway. Instead of a ring, put it in a cage, eight ounce MMA gloves on. Like the puffy ones guys spar in and make it a boxing fight, but you can clinch, you can clinch.”

Podcast host Dave Schmulenson replied, “Okay, so no knees, you can clinch, dirty boxing? Like…”

Coach Cooper continued, “Dirty boxing is legal. Basically, like the bare-knuckle boxing rules, just with eight ounce MMA gloves in a cage. That way, it’s not completely a boxing fight, it’s not completely a mixed-martial arts fight. It’s like somewhere, 65-35 boxing, you know what I mean because it is still more boxing because you can’t kick and take him down.”

This might work out, as Fury is already considering retirement from Boxing. As for Ngannou, his heavy-striking might turn out dangerous for ‘The Gypsy Kings’ with less protection from MMA gloves.

‘The Predator’ attended Fury’s latest fight and stepped inside the ring to meet the boxing champ after his win. Shortly after, Fury teased an exhibition fight against the UFC heavyweight champion.

“Francis Ngannou was here today, he’s on my hit list in an exhibition fight. However, he wants — in a cage, in a boxing ring, boxing gloves, UFC gloves, we can make it happen. I think everyone wants to see it. He’s a monster of a guy. I’m a monster of a guy. So it will be a clash of the titans for sure.”

There have been instances of MMA fighters being in a boxing match against professional boxers in the past. Conor McGregor boxed unbeaten boxing legend, Floyd Mayweather, in a high-grossing pay-per-view event in 2017.

YouTuber-turned Boxer Jake Paul has also fought MMA fighters in a boxing match before.

How long is Francis Ngannou out injured?

Francis Ngannou put on an emphatic performance at UFC 270 earlier this year. He successfully defended his UFC heavyweight title against Ciryl Gane and continued his dominance in the division.

However, he made a shocking revelation after the fight. ‘The Predator’ announced that he is suffering from a torn MCL and a damaged ACL, and will need surgery. He couldn’t get it done before the fight.

Although, he underwent the surgery in March 2022 and is currently out of the game. Reportedly, Ngannou went out for nine months, which will help him recover and be prepared to step inside the Octagon again.
