Welterweight boxing is back with a bout that promising fireworks between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn, and it seems like things have gotten heated up. Ahead of their highly anticipated fight on April 26, the duo faced off against each other during the first press conference, where they exchanged some stern words with each other. But what got the whole community talking was Eubank Jr.’s devious way of creating some drama at the end of the entire event.
A fight that has been more than two years in the making between two British pugilists needed to make some noise, and it was Chris Eubank Jr. who decided to assume that role in a controversial manner. As he and Conor Benn approached each other to face off, the 34-3 boxer suddenly slapped his undefeated rival with an egg on his face as things took a chaotic turn. This was a recall of Benn’s claim that egg contamination led him to fail a couple of drug tests. However, MMA legend Chael Sonnen didn’t seem to approve of that action from the IBO champion, as he simply said, “Thumbs down,” on his YouTube channel.
Chael Sonnen is the undisputed champion of trash-talking, who’s left some of the most memorable on-the-mic moments for the fans to look back at and reminisce. He knows how important it is to generate excitement and make the build-up to any fight an exciting one. However, ‘The American Gangster’ believes that attacking someone with something other than their fists did sit well with the UFC Hall of Famer.

“Look, brass knuckles and an egg aren’t the same thing. Spray paint and a bottle of water aren’t the same thing, but they’re in the same category. They’re foreign objects. You’re not allowed to bring ’em,” Chael Sonnen added.

Since outside and foreign objects weren’t allowed, how did Chris Eubank Jr. smuggle an egg into that event? Well, the IBO welterweight champion opened up on it hours after the incident went down.
Chris Eubank Jr. reveals how he brought an egg to the press conference
Following the egg slap, the planned face-off between Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr. had to be called off. They cited security issues as the reason, and it did bum some fans out since they were there to watch these two boxers in Manchester. A few hours after the whole fiasco, Eubank Jr. shared a story on Instagram, where he showed how he hid not one but quite a few eggs in the bottom right pocket of his Louis Vuitton jacket, and surprisingly, nobody noticed it.

Moreover, ‘Next Gen’s promoter opened up on the incident and claimed to have no idea about his boxer sneaking in some eggs during the press conference. Even he agreed that the act from Chris Eubank Jr. was uncalled for. “I don’t know what happened. It was an egg, we can see it was an egg, but I didn’t know what it was at the time. I was in shock at the time like everyone else. It kicked of there… it was a great press conference up till then but I think that was too far,” Ben Shalom told the media.
Well, the act successfully garnered interest in this upcoming boxing match in April. But in the meantime, let us know what you thought of Chris Eubank Jr.’s actions during the press conference in the comments down below.
