Is Jon Jones overestimating his worth, or does he deserve 'f— you money' like Tyson?

Jon Jones wants to be compensated well to fight Tom Aspinall, and by that, he means, in his words, “f— you money.” But how much is that amount? Well, to explain that, the heavyweight champion decided to talk about the rumored payouts of another fight, the boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson, which UFC legend Chael Sonnen believes to be very unreasonable.

According to rumors and certain reports, ‘The Problem Child’ earned his biggest payday since venturing into boxing by pocketing a staggering $40 million. Mike Tyson, on the other hand, appears to have been compensated pretty well for going eight rounds, and despite the blemish on his professional record, ‘Iron’s rumored to be taking home $20 million. With ‘Bones’ referencing these numbers, he might be insinuating a wish to be treated by the UFC similarly. However, Sonnen believes that the way business works in both MMA and boxing is not very similar.

“The first of the public negotiations was done by Jon Jones yesterday against the UFC on UFC cameras… Jon instantly goes to Jake Paul Mike Tyson – a business that he’s not in, an organization he’s not with and he couldn’t name it, by the way,” Sonnen stated on his YouTube channel while expressing his dislike for Jones making a case for himself with just rumored numbers. “Not only is he not in it, he couldn’t say for you what it was, and he states rumored numbers and he couldn’t even tell you who was rumored to have signed the cheque.”

Chael Sonnen would further add“I don’t say this to make Jon sound stupid, he can handle that on his own. For Jon to bring in a business that’s not his… Jon, tell me who signed that mythical cheque of which your numbers may or may not be true. Just tell me who signed it… He can’t do that. Didn’t know who signed the cheque, don’t know a damn thing about the business.”

Meanwhile, Tom Aspinall has also shared his reaction to Jon Jones‘ demand to the UFC, and guess what? Whether the promotion compensates the undisputed champion as he wants or not, the interim champion seems positive about fighting for the “real gold” next.

Tom Aspinall comments on Jon Jones’ recent statements

Tom Aspinall, during a recent interview, claimed that he has zero clues about what kind of negotiation Jon Jones and the UFC are having behind the scenes, claiming that he’s occupied with his own business. However, from the recent indications he got from Dana White and the UFC brass, he believes that the fans will get what they want, which is the fight between him and Jones to unify the heavyweight title.

“Well, first of all, I don’t know how that went because I don’t really keep up with other people’s business… but yeah, I think it’s looking positive. Okay is what I’ll say. It’s looking very positive and I think that the people want it really bad, the people are thirsty for it,” Tom Aspinall told Ariel Helwani. Besides, the UFC head honcho is totally confident that the Aspinall vs Jones could be the biggest heavyweight showdown ever.

Just last year, when Jon Jones first started turning down a fight against Tom Aspinall, he claimed to have been guaranteed $15 million to fight Stipe Miocic. However, payout estimations say otherwise. Could this mean that Chael Sonnen is correct about Jones playing the wrong game? Let us know in the comments down below.
