Canelo Alvarez: The king of combat sports? How does he stack up against UFC's best?

Recently, Dana White, president of the UFC, spoke about the supposed dispute that his MMA event, UFC Noche has against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. Both events will be on September 14 in Las Vegas and White assured that he has no problems with the Mexican. In an interview, the UFC head honcho indicated that he respects Canelo Alvarez and that he expects him to do well in his duel with Edgar Berlanga. The UFC CEO is sure that both his company and the Mexican will have a great box office this weekend.

He further revealed that he would be honoring Alvarez, and he’s featured in the show. Both the UFC and Canelo Alvarez’s fight will be commemorating Mexico’s Independence Day and will seek to provide a great show to the public. Now, Alvarez has shared his thoughts on the clash and if there is any bad blood between him and the promotion.

In a recent press appearance, Alvarez revealed that he has no issues with Dana White and the UFC hosting UFC 306 in the same city where he has his fight scheduled for Mexican Independence Day. In fact, he stated that he actually has a lot of respect for all the Mexican fighters who will be fighting in the Octagon on the night.

He said, “I have my fans, and you know I support boxing. And I’m very proud about all there Mexican is fighting in the UFC in the same night. I’m not competing with them.” For the unaware, UFC Noche features three Mexicans in the fight card: Alexa Grasso, Daniel Zellhuber, and the US-born Brian Ortega.

While both sides want to steal the show on September 14, for now, Alvarez surely has the upper hand when it comes to ticket sales. The UFC struggled to sell their tickets because of the sky-high prices they set. However, they have picked up pace now that they have reduced the prices by 83%. For boxing fans, the unified super middleweight champion Alvarez will face Edgar Berlanga. However, the duel has been widely criticized by fans so far. According to the boxing universe, they think that the Puerto Rican is no match for the Mexican. As a result, he could easily succumb to defeat. As for the UFC, they have a card full of Mexican fighters where Alexa Grasso, the flyweight champion, stands out.
