Joe Rogan's take on Dana White's payouts—Is he right about it being 'bad for everybody'?

The UFC and major boxing leagues have their differences, one of ͏which is their pay struc͏ture. F͏ighter͏s ͏in both leagues͏ are bound by cont͏racts, but for the U͏FC, ͏it’s͏ consi͏dered͏ more stringen͏t͏ and c͏onfusing, as n͏ote͏d by Joe Rogan and Francis Ngannou. The ͏former͏ heavyweight champion recently sat down with the multimillion-do͏llar p͏odcaste͏r to have a͏ c͏andid conversation about the f͏ate of the fight world. ͏Am͏ong the ͏topic͏s discussed was th͏e ͏confusing pay str͏ucture of the UFC.

Francis Ngannou was at the peak of his UFC career when he left the promotion and there were some valid reasons behind it as well. One of the most important reasons was the stringent contract. In JRE MMA Show #160, Francis Ngannou and Joe Rogan break down the difference between UFC bonuses and Boxing contracts.

“I was trying to like even to the UFC I have requested to be like, oh I want to be the UFC ambassador in Africa I want to do something out there. I’m like, oh no, we don’t know, you know, this is not we don’t… I really get tired or sick of drama,” confessed Francis Ngannou when asked about his departure from UFC. The former heavyweight champion has been indulged in the realm of boxing after conquering the MMA world and according to him the pay structure for big stars is a bit better than what UFC was giving.

Ngannou argued that, unlike the win bonuses, the boxing world payment is already fixed by their contracts. Ngannou initiated the debate between Win Bonuses vs. Contractual Pay and Rogan had to agree with his assessment, “I like boxing’s setup better, where you have a contract. You’re going to get paid $10 million, whatever it is, that’s what you get,” said Rogan.

He further added, “You don’t get $10 million, but you only get five million if a shitty judge gives it to the other guy, which we’ve seen so many times in the UFC. Guys lose half their paycheck because of a bad decision.”‘The Predator’ then asked Rogan, out of curiosity, who benefits from this, but even Rogan had no answer to that question.

“I don’t know who it benefits. I don’t think it benefits anybody. I think it’s bad for everybody. I think it’s bad for the audience because they’re like, “What?” It makes them angry. It’s bad for the fighter, for sure. If a fighter loses half their paycheck because of a bad decision,” said Rogan. Francis Ngannou left the UFC at a time when he had everything, Dana White even agreed to pay him more but for him, it was more than money. The ‘Predator’ wanted to do something for his community and PFL gave him that opportunity.
