Former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis beat former multi-division boxing world champion Roy Jones Jr. by a majority decision at Jorge Masvidal‘s Gamebred Boxing 4. Pettis and Jones Jr. faced each other in the main event of the night at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee. The hometown hero fought a composed fight against the aging legend who looked good for his age.

36-year-old Pettis has a 25-14 record in his MMA career. He has fought in the UFC, WEC, and PFL. “Showtime” came into the event on a two-fight losing streak in PFL. He was looking to turn his luck on his boxing debut against Jones Jr.

At 54 years of age, Jones Jr. has a professional record of 66-9, with 47 KO wins. Though he was far from his prime version, he held his own in the ring against a much younger Pettis.

Pettis and Jones Jr. fought a measured fight in the Gamebred Boxing 4 main event. Before the fight, Pettis had made it clear he was not going for a knockout finish over Jones Jr. Instead, the former UFC champion wanted to tire out his much older opponent and drag out a win.

At the end of the night, one judge scored a draw and the other two scored in Pettis’ favor. Nevertheless, both fighters were respectful to each other and grateful for the opportunity.

Fans on Twitter also paid props to both athletes for their performance.

Evidently, not all fans were pleased with 54-year-old Jones Jr. still competing.
