Jake Paul is back to fighting an MMA star after suffering his first defeat against Tommy Fury. He will be taking on Nate Diaz on August 5th at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas. However, famous combat sports journalist Ariel Helwani wasn’t impressed with ‘The Problem Child’ trashing the Stockton native during the first press conference of their fight.
Ariel Helwani hosted and moderated the media-only press conference for the Paul vs. Diaz fight. Helwani was apparently not impressed with the way Jake Paul conducted himself by discrediting Diaz’s achievements in MMA and said that it was an easy fight.

The 40-year-old journalist hosted a recent episode of the ‘MMA Hour’ and discussed how ‘The Problem Child’ is reducing the interest in his fight against Nate Diaz among the fans. This is primarily due to Paul discrediting the former UFC fighter’s MMA achievements. Helwani claims that this makes no sense when the YouTuber wants the world to know that he will be fighting a tough opponent.
“I don’t understand why he’s [Jake Paul] sh*tting on Nate’s record. You want the world to know and think that you are going to be fighting a tough guy who has an impressive resume and pedigree because then when you beat him, you could say, ‘Look, I told you this guy was tough, and look what I just did.’ [It] Makes no sense,” said Helwani.
Ariel Helwani also mentioned how Nate Diaz was hyping up Jake Paul more than the YouTuber was doing for the former UFC star. He added, “Nate was actually propping him up more than Jake was propping him up, which I was surprised.”
Details on Paul’s upcoming fight against the MMA veteran
The press conference for the Paul vs Diaz fight saw both fighters agreeing to fight for 12 rounds. In addition to that, the Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency (VADA) will take charge of the drug-testing protocols for the fight. They primarily do testing for major boxing events. Jake Paul is leaving no stone unturned to make his fight as legitimate as he can for the fans.

The tickets for the fight will be available for booking on Ticketmaster. It has been priced between the range of $72 to a staggering $7,695. The fight will also be shown on DAZN PPV. Given Jake Paul’s experience in boxing, the UFC legend is being seen as the underdog heading into the fight on August 5th. It will be Nate Diaz’s first fight since leaving the UFC in 2022.
It is certainly one of the biggest fights in Jake Paul’s boxing career so far, given how popular Nate Diaz is among the fans of combat sports. Fans will have to wait and see what pans out for both fighters as we approach the event in the summer.
