The fighting community’s excitement is at a high as the boxing bout between Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz is just hours away. Fight fans need no reminder of the heat that the two emanated while fighting for the UFC BMF belt, back at UFC 244, where the fight had to be stopped by the doctors as Masvidal opened up a nasty cut right above Diaz’s eye. Now, as we are gearing up for their boxing clash, let’s put the spotlight on money matters, as the purse for Diaz vs. Masvidal has gone public. But there’s a card that put the main event to shame.
Anthony Pettis is going to land against the former UFC contender, Chris Avila, in the event. However, Pettis is going to pocket more than ‘Gamebred’. Let’s dive into the numbers right away.

The former UFC fighters Masvidal and Diaz will both earn no more than $500,000 in their boxing match. The duo will headline the event in a 10-round fight. While the Stockton native is expected to pocket $500,000, his opponent will get only $300,000. However, Pettis will bag an amount of $350,000 in his fight against Avila as per a report by MMAJunkie. Needless to say, this has created quite a ruckus in the world of martial arts.
A couple of months ago, ‘Gamebred’ in an interview on Vlad TV, revealed that he wanted a big paycheck. Recounting the amount he got for fighting Kamaru Usman at UFC 251, Masvidal said, “There’s only one mother****er in the whole world that could get that call for the bat signal, and that’s this dude here. But I had to get paid. And I had to get paid very f***ing handsomely to do it. …That’s one of the fights that I made the most, because we ended up selling like right under 1.3 million PPVs. If I hadn’t struck that deal with the UFC, I wouldn’t have got nowhere near $5 million. I would have sold the same amount and got nowhere near $5 million.”
Another disappointment for Masvidal came with the date of his fight colliding with the date for UFC 302. Nevertheless, the fighters will also receive more than the said six figures. They are expected to pocket a hefty amount from the PPV sales, sponsorships, and discretionary bonuses.
How much did ‘Gamebred’ and ‘The Stockton Slugger’ earn back when they fought each other for the first time in the UFC? Let’s find out.

Nate Diaz and Masvidal’s earnings at UFC 244
UFC 244 was the first time when the MMA promotion introduced the BMF belt. Needless to say, the battle that ensued for the new title bloodied both Masvidal and Diaz. But the fight was concluded by a doctor’s stoppage in the third round. Despite his defeat, the Stockton resident bagged half a million dollars. Masvidal, on the other hand, earned the same amount of cash to show up, and a bit extra from the win bonus. To add on top of that, the fighters also got some income via PPV sales and brand endorsements.
