Tyson Fury found the pinnacle of his success pretty early on and this trajectory was not only powerful, but also daunting. When you reach heights drastically, more often than not, people ask: what’s next? He might have felt the same after becoming the world heavyweight champion after defeating Wladimir Klitschko in 2015. His life was a rollercoaster because while he was winning major bouts, his mental health was going in the opposite direction, giving him KOs of its own. From contemplating suicide to becoming a world champion one more time, he faced it all.

Fortunately, the champion is past that horrific phase and as he is gearing up to face Oleksandr Usyk in a much-anticipated encounter, let’s revisit the comments made by Joe Rogan regarding Fury’s commendable career trajectory.

During the #135 episode of the Joe Rogan Experience with Paul Felder last year, the color commentator complimented ‘The Gypsy King’ and how the now 35-year-old faced the adversities of his life. Narrating the journey, Rogan added, “He beats Wladimir Klitschko, he becomes the heavyweight champion, then loses his fu** mind. He is drinking constantly and almost commits suicide. He was driving his Ferrari and about to just fuc** driving off a cliff. And then gets it together and becomes a heavyweight champion again!”

After defeating Klitschko, Tyson Fury felt he had achieved everything and nothing else was left. The champion was in a dark place mentally and even contemplated suicide while also being addicted to drugs. He gained 400 pounds in the process and he almost drove his Ferrari off a cliff in 2016. In the interaction, Rogan also revealed that the 35-year-old was not mentally back when he fought Deontay Wilder.

Fury fought with Wilder for the first time in December 2018 and the bout ended in a split draw with the latter retaining his heavyweight title. The two fighters locked horns against each other for the second time in February 2020 and it ended with a seventh-round technical knockout win for Fury. The most recent battle between the two took place in 2021 as Tyson Fury won via eleventh-round knockout.
