Francis Ngannou once said that he may return to the UFC for one fight and one fight only- Ngannou vs. Jon Jones. A matchup that fans and Ngannou have wanted for eternity. And something that’s bigger than the UFC and the PFL. However, what are the chances for Ngannou to actually win?

After he dominated Tyson Fury inside the ring, fans have been rallying around Ngannou more than ever. However, there are those who doubt the striker’s chances against a GOAT like ‘Bones’. And one of them is one of the UFC’s most celebrated fighters of the past.

A fight of the dreams for all UFC fans. There are very few powerhouses in the MMA world quite like Ngannou and Jones. While one has unprecedented power in his strikes, the other is considered one of the best in the world. However, does Ngannou really stand a chance?

If Chael Sonnen is to be believed, the idea of it is dubious, to say the least. According to Sonnen, fans’ firm belief in Ngannou’s victory over Jones is questionable. He explains it with the interesting example of Conor McGregor going up against Khabib Nurmagomedov.

“Why do you think Francis could knock out Jon Jones?” Sonnen questions his audience in his new YouTube video. “(is it) because you follow the sport? Because you’re really smart? Because Francis is so much bigger? Is that why? When Conor McGregor went in there after going 30 minutes with Floyd, you all thought he was a dangerous striker too didn’t you? And then Khabib who wasn’t a striker, out struck him and put him on his a**.”

Clearly, drawing a parallel here is an interesting technique. Both McGregor and Ngannou lost to their boxing opponents. While one loss was more controversial than the other (Ngannou’s), things just make sense. Just because ‘The Predator’ outboxed Fury, doesn’t mean he can out-strike Jones. But again, it’s impossible to take a side when two of the best heavyweights are involved. Just like it was the case for Fury vs. Ngannou.

Francis Ngannou recently appeared in an episode of the Joe Rogan Experience. Here, he and Rogan discussed a load of MMA and boxing topics. One of them was the potential Jones fight. Rogan asked him whether defeating Jones would mean regaining the UFC title even though Ngannou is no longer a part of it.

” I worry about that fight, that challenge, and I wouldn’t care if he was a fight without the title. I don’t need a UFC title” Ngannou had said then. “That fight is bigger than the title”.
