Kiefer Crosbie is ready to turn in a new leaf in his career as he faces reality star Aaron Chalmers at the 3Arena in Dublin next month. The Irish fighter, a teammate and friend of Conor McGregor, is making his professional boxing debut after enjoying success in MMA. Following in the footsteps of ‘The Notorious’, he is transitioning to a boxing ring after fighting under BAMMA, Bellator, and most recently, Rise FC.

Notably, the 33-year-old squares off against Geordie Shore starrer at KINGPYN’s High Stakes Tournament Semi-Finals on July 15. He is riding on a two-win streak after dropping his last two outings. Those two losses came in Bellator, which also led the promotion to cut ties with him. Similarly, he faces another uphill task in the English fighter.

The Dubliner is a product of SBG Ireland where he learned the minute details of MMA under the tutelage of famed coach John Kavanagh. He burst into the scene when he collected a highlight-reel finish at BAMMA 35 over Josh Plant.

Recalling that burst of fame, he told MyMMANews, “That fight went viral, it went everywhere, and I made a name for myself that night. Everyone seen it, it blew up! My following went up. People in the street were like ‘aww, I seen you!’”

Soon after, the offer from Bellator knocked on his door, which was too good to refuse. The 10-3 record holder jumped on the money as he had to take care of his family. Over a stretch of 3 years, he went from 4-0 to 8-3 with the promotion, as he failed to replicate what was expected from him as one of the most exciting Irish prospects.

But the fighter didn’t give up and bounced back with two consecutive victories, and kept his dream of the UFC debut alive.

Before that, he faces 5-2 record holder ‘The Joker’ who recently traded blows with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in an exhibition match in Feb. this year. The makeshift fight had an abysmal attendance with the 02 Arena failing to fill in the seats. Further, ticket prices were also reduced in a last-minute attempt to garner more sales.

After getting shelved from Bellator, he declared, “My goal remains the same as it has since 2009 when I had my first MMA fight. That’s to get to the UFC, wrap that tri-colour around my shoulders and march into the Octagon! That’s my goal still.”
