Dana White‘s recent announcement about venturing into boxing has unquestionably and gained almost every combat sports fan’s attention. And guess whose attention it has also garnered? Well, it’s his superstar 205-pound champ, Alex Pereira. ‘Poatan’ has provided an incredible announcement for fans who want to see him inside the squared circle.
Time and time again, Alex Pereira has shown he could stand toe-toe with some of the professional boxers. That’s because we’ve seen him spar boxers, like Demsey McKean. “Absolutely [if he’ll ever box]. I have expressed my will to go boxing one day. I think this partnership of the UFC going to boxing is a very good thing going for the sport,” Pereira told ‘The Schmo’, as he confessed his wish to put on heavier gloves.
Believing that it’s an opportunity to silence critics from the boxing community, Alex Pereira further stated, “Many boxers say that MMA fighters cannot go toe to toe with boxing. [I] believe that not only [me] but many other fighters could do that too. Definitely [I’d] love to go boxing if that’s where Dana White goes.” When asked about the weight class, he added, “[At] heavyweight,” which was already apparent given he expressed his wish to fight the king of the UFC’s heavyweight division, Jon Jones.
