Last weekend was a treat for fight fans, as they got to witness two of the biggest combat sports athletes—Jon Jones and Mike Tyson—enter their respective rings for high-profile matchups. While considered some of, if the not the greatest at their respective sports, it’s difficult to determine who the combat sports GOAT is. Being the combat sports realm for practically all his life, Joe Rogan constantly finds himself speculating who the greatest of all time is. But Rogan himself has a pick for who he thinks is the combat sports GOAT, and it’s none than the legendary Mike Tyson, as he revealed in the latest edition of ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ (JRE #2232).
This week, Joe Rogan had American ͏actor Jos͏h Brolin as a guest on his podcast, and the duo shared their love for combat sports. During one of the many anecdotes they exchanged, Brolin spoke of the day he got to see Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson fight together in a green room at a boxing event. As per Brolin, while he was awed by Ali’s presence, but it was Tyson who stole the spotlight for him. The actor then spoke Tyson’s opponent hyping himself up before the fight, but the moment he saw ‘The Dynamite Kid,’ fear took over his body.
Josh Brolin said, “I went to go see this fight, and Tyson was fighting, and this guy was doing this stuff before, and he had this cut; he had built himself into confidence, and Mike came out afterward. He was the first one, obviously. And Mike came out afterward, and I watched his face.” The actor revealed that he saw the confidence wash away from the boxer, and that was the moment he lost the fight before it even began. “He had absolutely lost the fight long before Mike had ever gotten in the ring.”, Brolin said.

The fear of facing someone like Mike Tyson is what, according to Joe Rogan, makes ‘Iron Mike’ the combat sports GOAT. The sheer dominance of the boxer inside the ring spoke volumes of his skills, and there is no denying that he is truly one of the all-time greats. “I maintain that in the time where he was champion, like the two or three years where he was at his best, he was the greatest fighter of all time.”, concluded Rogan on his podcast with Josh Brolin.
Without a doubt, Mike Tyson has etched his name in the history of the sport, with little debate about him being one of the greatest of all time. However, Jon Jones too, maintained a dominant career that has him as the greatest MMA fighter in the books of Joe Rogan and UFC head honcho Dana White. While regarding them as two of the greatest combat athletes ever, Rogan pointed out trait that Tyson and Jones share a similar trait that makes them a cut apart from all their contemporaries.
