Don Frye, the legendary figure in the world of mixed martial arts, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the current generation of UFC champions. He is not happy with champions who choose to dye their hair and paint their toenails. Frye, known for his no-nonsense, old-school approach to fighting, finds these stylistic choices to be contrary to the traditional values and toughness that are often associated with the sport. He rose to prominence during the early days of the UFC, where fighters were often seen as gritty warriors. He emphasized how fighters focused solely on their craft and displayed their skills inside the Octagon back in the day.

The former UFC champion expects raw talent, physical strength, and mental toughness rather than superficial appearances or personal styles. He called out “pretty boy champions” for choosing bold fashion. While he didn’t particularly name the UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya, it is well-known that he is into fashion.

In a video uploaded by ‘Brawl Season’ on Instagram, ‘The Predator’ said, “I’m Don Frye, The Predator. The UFC’s two-time world champion. Back when men were men, not pretty boy champions who dyed their hair and, for god’s sake, paint their toenails. We had fight all night long. There were no rules, no weight limits and no time limits.”

He added, “Tournament fighting your reward for winning a fight would be to come back 20 minutes later and fight again. At the end of the fight, you can go to the hospital or you go to the after party or, if you are tough enough, both.”

Under the post, the very famous bodybuilder, Flex Wheeler, also commented. He wrote, “All the best to you and your family big brother.” It seems that Wheeler was not concerned about how UFC champions look these days. Instead, he wished well for Frye’s family. For Frye, the act of dyeing hair and painting toenails seems to represent a departure from the traditional ideals a fighter should hold.

Israel Adesanya chooses to paint his nails, breaking the societal norms

The UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya, has frequently encountered criticism from the public due to his unconventional fashion choices. Despite facing backlash and questions about his masculinity, he has fearlessly embraced fashion choices that challenge traditional notions of masculinity. One such choice is his preference for adorning his nails with nail polish. The UFC middleweight champion has adamantly defended his choices. In the lead-up to his highly anticipated rematch against Robert Whittaker at UFC 271, the Nigerian fighter made headlines for wearing nail polish. Later, a fan asked him why he wears nail polish and then talks about masculinity.

As a reply to the question Adesanya said, “I do what I want. Dafuq, are you gonna do about it… Tbh one of the main reasons I like my nails did is because they pi*s off sooooo many insecure men. If something that doesn’t involve or hurt you can generate that kind of outrage reaction out of you… then I own you.” It seems Adesanya has already given an answer about his choice of painting his nails. ‘The Last Stylebender’ feels that painting nails do not make a fighter less rugged or less manly.
