Conor McGregor has often shared a great admiration for Arnold Schwarzenegger. The former simultaneous two-division UFC champion is a fan of the bodybuilder turned actor. Schwarzenegger has returned the same respect to McGregor on numerous occasions as well. But how are they getting along so well? One of Conor McGregor’s co-stars from his Hollywood debut movie ‘Road House’ has an answer.
Hollywood star Travis Van Winkle recently sat down for an interview on Extra Rounds available on UFC Fight Pass. The 40-year-old will share the screen with Conor McGregor and Jake Gyllenhaal in the upcoming film ‘Road House’. Amazon Studios is making the film which itself is a reimagining of the 1989 cult classic of the same name.
During the chat, Winkle opened up about his love for MMA and the UFC. He also talked about his experience of meeting Conor McGregor on the sets in the Dominican Republic. One of the first observations the ‘Friday the 13th’ star had about McGregor was how much he had in common with Schwarzenegger.

Travis Van Winkle on working with Conor McGregor
Unsurprisingly, the very first question Travis Van Winkle got was about his experience meeting Conor McGregor. The California-born actor replied he had a great time meeting the former champion.
He added, “I can see why him and Arnold are friends, you know? They are the paragon of self-belief and of vision and execution.” He continued, “Both these guys- they see what they want, they go out after it and they make it happen. They’re very special.”
While on the same subject, the interviewer asked him about the mentality that Conor McGregor has displayed throughout his career. Calling McGregor’s MMA resume “impressive”, Van Winkle said, “I’m excited to see him come back. That’s what I talked about when I spoke with him in the Dominican.”
He added, “He’s the biggest I’ve ever seen him. This dude is straight-up an ox. He’s definitely excited to come back. He was when we spoke.”
