Former UFC fighter Chad Mendes is back in the headlines as he heads into a massive bare-knuckle bout against another MMA legend Eddie Alvarez later this month. Having faced the likes of former double champ Conor McGregor, the 37-year-old now finds himself at the tail end of what has been a long and successful combat career. Interestingly, both he and Alvarez have earlier fought the Irishman during their heydays in the UFC.

As Mendes talked about the upcoming fight at BKFC 41 in an interview with ‘War Sports’, he also happened to make an important disclosure regarding his future once he wrapped up the fight with Alvarez. While doing so, the veteran also addressed a potential fight in the future for the BKFC title and made an interesting statement on the possibility of that taking place.

BKFC 41 goes down later this month in Denver as quite a few former UFC stars get ready to clash in the main and the co-main event of the card. Headlined by former UFC champ Luke Rockhold and 31-year-old, Mike Perry, the card will also have Mendes and Alvarez square up as the co-main of the night.

For ‘Money’, this event could turn out to be a very important one, as he mentioned in his interview. Addressing his future as a fighter, the 37-year-old opened up about a possible retirement following the next bout.

“This honestly might be my last fight. We’ll just kinda see how this one goes,” he stated.

Claiming that it also depended on the type of money involved, Mendes even disclosed that his retirement was something he had already discussed with his wife.

“I already told the wife this is likely to be the last one, so…” he said.

Considering that his MMA debut came back in 2008, and the heavy toll that bare-knuckle fighting has on the fighters, his decision probably comes at the right time. Thus, a fight against Alvarez, another legend in his own right, could just be the perfect opportunity for Mendes to finally draw the curtains on his career.

Having fought as a top contender in the UFC against some of the biggest names of the sport, Mendes was also asked if he harbored any goals of fighting Luis Palomino, the current Lightweight and Welterweight champ at BKFC. Surprisingly, the veteran revealed that fighting for the gold didn’t serve as a motivation to him at his point anymore.

“Honestly, that fight has zero interest for me,” he said.

Ultimately, for the 37-year-old, it came down to how big the paycheck was, as he claimed to have lost the desire to just chase the belt.

“I have zero desire to win a bare-knuckle belt. But, yeah, I mean, if the organization was gonna pay me big bucks…” he said.
