The BJJ superstar Craig Jones has shaken up the world of combat sports and Joe Rogan with an update on his rivalry with Gabrielle ‘Gabi’ Garcia. The female 10-time BJJ world champion is going to face the 4-time ADCC champion in Jones’ massive $1 million BJJ tournament. It is going to be the first professional intergender grappling bout in history. Without a doubt, Rogan didn’t believe it in the first go.
In the recent episode of ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’, the famed UFC color commentator invited Jones to the set. Needless to say, talks about the ‘Craig Jones Invitational’ were one of the topics they discussed. However, Jones revealed that his event would feature him going against Garcia.

During the conversation on the set of JRE, Jones revealed, “Now we’re talking the most decorated female athlete of all time, Gabi Garcia, has put pen to paper to face me on my own event.” But Rogan wasn’t about to be convinced. He told Jones that the two BJJ black belts have been talking about it for a long time now. But when he questioned if it was actually going to happen, Jones confidently affirmed.
The 2-time ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship silver medalist confirmed that the fight was booked indeed. “A 100% gonna happen. We booked it, we signed this contract earlier. So like, I mean, I had to do a lot of things to get it done, you know?”
This further piqued Rogan’s intrigue and he asked what Jones had to do to make Garcia accept the fight. But the grappling professional disclosed that he only had to talk to the female grappling star and give her a back rub. The JRE host was left in a laughing spree. He jabbed the grappler, asking him whether he also had to dance with Garcia. But Jones said he was doing it just for the fans. He said, “But I’ll do it for the fans. But we got that booked.” Jones revealed that Garcia was 6’4’’ tall and probably weighed around 250 lbs. He seemed confident and agreed to take her on, leaving Rogan in awe.

Surprisingly, Jones claimed that he wouldn’t even need to train for the event. Although he previously stated that he would retire if he lost the bout against Garcia, he seemed pretty confident in his skills. Rogan just had to confirm whether Jones would train or not. But the grappling superstar replied, “I won’t train that hard. I’m happy she’s doing it though. Oh, it took a long time. We’ve been talking about this for two and a half years. Feels like an arranged marriage or something.“
Without a doubt, Rogan was impressed with the idea, since he assumed that it was all nothing but a joke. But did you know that Garcia and Jones had a bout fixed back in 2021? Let’s find out about it.

The previous developments in the intergender grappling bout
The fight between Jones and Garcia has been under speculation for years now. Previously, the star grappler hinted at the fight quite a few times on social media. The story began when Garcia challenged Gordon Ryan, one of Jones’ former teammates. While the BJJ king didn’t seem to take the challenge seriously, he didn’t refuse, and the fight was booked for 2021. Unfortunately, it didn’t materialize and the BJJ fans took it for a joke.
Later on, a battle on the mat between Garcia and Jones was fixed in the same year. However, the BJJ black belts had to postpone the grappling match and announced the same on Instagram Live. During the live, ‘Gabi’ kept on showing how serious she was about the fight and convinced the fans that the fight would happen. At that time, the grapplers did not have a suitable platform to transmit the live match on social media.
