Newell has a spectacular professional MMA record of 16-4. He is an elite submission grappler having over 68% of his victories coming in this manner (11 Submissions out of 16). He is a former XFC Lightweight Champion.

Newell said – “I have never looked at myself as the one-handed fighter. I am a legitimate fighter that happens to only have one hand”.

Newell has faced several obstacles not only in his professional MMA career but also in life. However, he never gave up and just walked through all of those hurdles to become one of the most well-respected MMA athletes.
In the same interview, Newell said – “I realize everyone faces obstacles. And people can see that I am facing obstacles, and relate to me on a personal level based on whatever obstacles they are facing”.

Nick Newell – Professional MMA career
He made his professional MMA debut in 2009. In his MMA career, he was undefeated for five years (2009 to 2013), in which he also claimed the XFC Lightweight Championship title by defeating Eric Reynolds at XFC 21.
After becoming the champion, Newell left XFC to fight for the ‘World Series of Fighting’ (WSOF). In WSOF, he claimed two back-to-back wins and faced the former UFC interim lightweight champion Justin Gaethje, who was then reigning WSOF lightweight champion.
The pair clashed at WSOF 11 back on July 5, 2014, where Newell suffered his first professional loss via TKO in the second round. However, he immediately turned his skid and claimed three consecutive victories. Now, Newell is fighting in Bellator.
