As a long-time training partner of Lencioni, Sonnen actively maintained communication with the fighter’s family. Dismissing the rumors, the UFC legend confirmed that Lencioni had never been in a coma, as confirmed by a doctor. Bellator, too, acknowledged the incident and assured the public of their vigilant monitoring of the 28-year-old fighter’s medical progress.
Expressing his gratitude, the former UFC title challenger extended appreciation to Bellator and the President of the ABC [Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports] for their support during this challenging time. Chael Sonnen released a dedicated video on his YouTube channel discussing ‘Sunshine’ Lencioni’s health. In the video, Sonnen revealed, “Cris is in the hospital, he has not regained consciousness. So, they’ve got his vitals, they got his signs, they are able to do all sorts of things. Everything does steers to the direction that he will regain consciousness and then we go from there.”

Sonnen earnestly requested fans to support Lencioni by saying, “I would ask that you guys do keep him in your thoughts, though. Please. Keep him in your prayers.”
Expressing his gratitude, Sonnen added, “Bellator MMA. Oh geez. The way they stepped forward and saw this. Mike Mazulli, the President of the ABC, had medical forms from Cris’ past and he just stepped. Got the doctors, everything they needed. Mazulli probably doesn’t even know how helpful him picking up the phone and being there for the family was. But great people we’ve got in the sport, guys.”

Cris Lencioni was originally scheduled to fight James Gallagher at Bellator 298. Lencioni is currently on a four-fight winning streak, with his most recent victory being a submission win over Blake Smith. However, his medical condition has put a halt to his fighting career for now.
