Yoel Romero is one of the most physically imposing fighters in the MMA world. Despite that, it was recently revealed that ‘Soldier of God’ has a particular fear. Romero, who is scheduled to fight at Bellator 297, did not attend the pre-fight press conference in person in Chicago. Many fans have shared their reactions to the incident.

Romero will go head-to-head against light heavyweight champion Vadim Nemkov for the title. It will be his fourth fight for the promotion since joining them in 2020. While he lost his debut Bellator fight, he registered knockout finishes in his next two bouts. That landed him an opportunity to fight for the title. The press conference for Bellator 297 was held in Chicago, Illinois. However, ‘Soldier of God’ was nowhere to be found in attendance. The reason for his absence was the venue of the press conference, which took place on the 99th floor of Willis Tower. The building has 110 floors in total. For 25 years, the Willis Tower was the tallest building in the world. Romero apparently has a fear of heights.

Chael Sonnen, who mediated the press conference, revealed the news about Romero’s fear of heights during the event. He said, “You guys know why he’s [Romero] is not here today?… Turns out he’s scared of heights.” Moreover, Yoel Romero also confirmed that tall buildings are not for him while being present at the event through Zoom. He said, “Not even with my kids would I be able to go up on a Ferris wheel.”
