Former UFC dual champion Conor McGregor once said that NBA legend LeBron James inspired him to invest in himself and take better care of his body.

Conor McGregor is one of the biggest names in the sporting world and only a handful of athletes can be compared to him in terms of stardom. NBA legend LeBron James is one of them. The ‘King’ of Los Angeles Lakers is counted amongst the greatest American athletes to ever grace the sport. And one reason James has dominated the league for such a long time is his investment in fitness.

This aspect of LeBron James’ life rang a bell in the Irishman McGregor’s mind, who once read how James spent millions of dollars to stay in shape. This includes personal trainers, chefs, dieticians, and nutritionists, to help him stay at the helm of the sport.

Conor McGregor learns from LeBron James’ $1.5 million investment

It was during the lead-up to Conor McGregor’s comeback fight against Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone in 2020 that McGregor went on Tony Robbin’s podcast. On the podcast, McGregor shared a lot of things about himself and also revealed how LeBron James helped him become a better version of himself.

“A trait of the successful is to train early. Wake up and train early. You’ve got to be successful. You’ve got to be in shape. You know, you’ve got to be in shape physically, to be in shape mentally. They go hand in hand.”

“So, I am putting a lot more time into that. I actually realized it first when I read it on LeBron James. He spent 1.5 million dollars a year annually on himself. Physical therapist, masseuse, nutritionist, trainers, all of that.”

“And you know when I seen that I said, ‘I spend zero, I spend zero.’ I just when to camp when a fight forms. I gather a team of people, we go into the Vegas desert. We lock ourselves away for ten weeks and doing, say, insanity work.”

This statement came after the Irishman’s underwhelming performance against Russian MMA phenom Khabib Nurmagomedov. However, with a better fitness regimen, McGregor would go on to make quick work of Cerrone in his comeback fight and win a lot of praise for the same.

But after his spectacular win, he once again visited the losing column, not once but twice against his old rival Dustin Poirier. And in the second fight, the Irishman suffered a devastating leg injury as well.

Jake Paul calls out Conor McGregor

The Irishman has shown a quick recovery since his losing skid against ‘The Diamond’ Dustin Poirier at the UFC back in 2021. And even before making his comeback, McGregor already has a lot of takers. One of them is ‘The Problem Child’ Jake Paul.

Paul recently made fun of the Irishman after watching a video of his intense sparring and also downplayed him whilst calling him out for a fight. However, McGregor decided to take the matter into his own hands this time and replied to the YouTuber turned boxer in his own style.
