Prior to UFC 247, the company held a pre-fight press conference for Israel Adesanya vs Yoel Romero which is scheduled for March at UFC 248. Adesanya will defend his middleweight title against one of the most dangerous fighters in the division. Both Adesanya and Romero were part of the presser. Shades were thrown from both sides. In a rather interesting exchange, the champion brought up Romero’s past weight cutting issues.

Romero has missed weight on multiple occasions. One of them being an interim middleweight title match against Luke Rockhold. Romero knocked out Rockhold to win the match but could not secure the title for being over being overweight.

Unfazed by Romero’s weight management issues, he said: ” Weight’s never been a problem for me but I will get a big chunk of his money if he doesn’t make weight.”

When Romero was asked about weight management, he confidently replied that he has never had any weight cutting issues in the past. He said: ” Never in my life, I had a problem with my weight.” Adesanya was quick to catch on and claimed that Romero was lying.

What followed next was probably a nightmare for the President of the company, Dana White. Romero stood up from his chair and tried to walk towards Adesanya with his hand extended forward. Visibly terrified, Dana White tried to separate both men and said: “You guys are scaring me, man.” Romero who is known for his calm demeanor went ahead to shake the Champion’s hand.

In an outlandish way, Adesanya proceeded to touch Yoel Romero’s belly “No problem, no problem” said the champion. The frightened President responded by saying ” I don’t need this sh*t.” Both men settled down and Romero assured Dana White by saying “Boss, not yet.”

Romero continued to assert that he has been cutting weight for a long time and never had a problem with it. But in the process of explaining it, he made the champion burst out in laughter. The challenger said: “For 25 years I do that weight…the first time I fight in this weight was in 97… 1897 ”

The press conference was a rather entertaining one. No doubt, even the fight will be the same. Adesanya is one of the most technical and dynamic strikers in the division. It does not take long for him to identify holes in his opponent’s game. Whereas, Romero has a strong wrestling base who has competed in the 2000 Olympics and won a silver medal. Also, he is one of the hardest hitters in the division.
