UFC Fight Night: Waterson vs Hill is in the books and the scrappy veteran in Michelle Waterson came out victorious. The victory came via split decision and saw “The Karate Hottie” bounce back after a tough go in the early rounds. Chiefly, the tide began to change in the third round of the scheduled bout and Waterson edged a win.

Fight fans are split between the aforementioned fighters with many believing that Hill did enough to win. “Overtime” started off strong and continued to maintain a largely even strike differential throughout the fight until the final bell. However, it was not meant to be as the 35-year-old has to make her way back to the drawing board.

Michelle Waterson: Where does she go from here?

The former Invicta FC Atomweight champion in Waterson finally cracked a disappointing two-fight skid that began in October 2019. Despite the win over Angela Hill on September 12, she will have to string a meaningful run to return to contention.

A match-up worth considering would be the winner of Claudia Gadelha vs Yan Xiaonan, scheduled for November 7. Although the lay-off would be significant, a win over either woman mentioned above would catapult her profile.

Gadelha most recently secured a win over Hill via split decision and will be a new puzzle for Waterson to decode. Moreover, both fighters have a stand-up style that is conducive to a thrilling viewing experience and will be a sure shot firefight.

On the other hand, Yan Xiaonan has had a stellar run in her professional career thus far. She is undefeated in 11 of her previous fights, five of which occurred inside the UFC’s cage. Furthermore, she has made her presence known by securing wins over Randa Markos and Angela Hill in her previous outings.

Michelle Waterson will be keen to swipe off some shine that the surging Chinese prospect currently holds. She is a marquee name in her own right and is a fan-favorite fighter on the UFC roster.

The only obstacle would be a long lay-off from action considering the timeline of events. However, the skilled veteran has plenty of experience and will look to re-enter the discussion of contention swiftly.
