UFC Welterweight Christian Aguilera made his first appearance inside the Octagon memorable, with a swift KO of Anthony Ivy. Aguilera stopped Ivy in just 00:59 of the very first round at UFC Fight Night. The finish would tie a UFC record for most finishes under a minute, each with a total of 3.
Christian Aguilera was coming off a three-fight win streak, making his debut under the bright lights of the Octagon. Much was made of ‘The Beast’ stand-up game as his boxing was sharp in his last two outings. Aguilera’s fan-friendly style is a great addition to the Welterweight division with 11 of his 14 wins coming off finishes.

His opponent, Anthony Ivy, began the fight by pressing the action forward in the initial moments of the bout. However, Christian Aguilera’s counter-movement was on full display. Not to mention ‘The Beast’ caught Anthony Ivy moving forward and hurt the welterweight against the cage.
The fight quickly unraveled from there as Aguilera landed a lighting quick uppercut that signaled the end.
Anthony Ivy was set to step in on short notice for Ian Heinisch at UFC 250. The latter almost withdrew from the fight when a cornerman initially tested positive for COVID-19. However, further tests came back negative, and the fight went on as planned.
Although ‘Aquaman’ Ivy is coming off 5 consecutive victories, he will need to re-assess picking short notice fights going forward. The UFC Welterweight division is brimming with contenders, and cracking the top 15 is no mean feat.

“It’s crazy man, It still feels surreal, It still feels like a dream. We’ll see what happens when I wake up tomorrow. I watched the replay a couple of times but it definitely happened so I’m pumped, man. Like anyone the dream is always to get to the finish line, to the top of the mountain, so we’ll just keep climbing till we get there.”
