Cody Stamann who is 1-1-1 in his last outings will put it all on the line against newcomer Askar Askar. The aforementioned featherweight bout takes place on the main card for UFC Fight Night: Overeem vs Volkov. Chiefly, the event marks the UFC’s return to the Apex Facility and goes down on Super Bowl weekend for some friendly competition.
The 145-pound division has been on fire lately with several notable names emerging out of the woodwork. The champion Alexander Volkanovski is gearing up to defend his title again, and this opens the gates for new contenders. While Stamann and Askar aren’t in line for immediate contention, a win on the big stage wouldn’t hurt.

UFC bantamweights: Cody Stamann vs Askar Askar
‘The Spartan’ was on a 10-fight win streak at one point before running into title challenger Aljamain Sterling at UFC 228. He lost the fight via Suloev Strech Kneebar submission and hasn’t exactly got a winning streak going since. However, if his recent win over Brian Kelleher is any indication, Cody Stamann is still very much a key player.
He’s been given the unfortunate task of welcoming a UFC newcomer to the division and hence doesn’t have much to gain. However, he’s coming off a loss to Jimmy Rivera in his last fight and will look to bounce back. Moreover, his skill set is well-rounded enough that he’ll be confident that he can etch out a win over anyone.
Askar Askar suffered his first career loss not long ago, but managed to bounce back with a unanimous decision win. The 11-1 fighter is a range based attacker who’s had experience fighting tough streaking fighters in promotions like LFA. Not to mention, he’s fallen into wins across various spectrums, including TKO due to retirement and ‘Tap to Strikes’.

Askar will have to dot his ‘I’s and cross his T’s’ if he’s to make the impact he’s looking for. Cody Stamann fights with a vengeance when coming off a loss, and it’s unclear whether Askar has what it takes. Not to mention, the caliber of opponents he’s faced isn’t truly comparable to ‘The Spartan’s resume.
Prediction: Cody Stamann to claim a first-round submission win (RNC)
