UFC strawweight fighters Cheyanne Buys and Montserrat Ruiz will make their joint debut in the organization on the main card no less. The fight will go down under the headlining booking of Derek Brunson vs Kevin Holland and a large fan-turnout is expected on air.

Additionally, women’s strawweight fights haven’t failed to be exciting through 2021 and the aforementioned fighters will want to add to the list of impressive displays by their divisional colleagues.

The 115-pound title will be contested on April 24, in a bout between Zhang Weili and Rose Namajunas. Considering that the media is already swooning over this match-up, both Buys and Ruiz will want to put a convincing performance. In women’s MMA, stringing together a few clutch wins right from the get-go can take a fighter places.

UFC strawweights: Cheyanne Buys vs Montserrat Ruiz

The debutant, Buys, will attempt to make UFC history in her first bout by making sure she wins on the same night as her husband, JP Buys, who is also making his debut. The 5-1 prospect impressed Dana White during her Contender Series appearance back in August.

Four of her five overall victories have come by the way of decision and this reflects the fighting style she chooses to adopt. Buys isn’t particularly heavy-handed, however, she’s certainly optimally sized to muscle up on her opponents. She’ll have to be on the lookout for Montserrat Ruiz as she readies herself for a fast-paced fight.

Conejo’ Ruiz is the more experienced prospect coming in with a 9-1 record and has experience in Invicta FC. Not to mention, her last fight ended via an uber-impressive scarf hold armlock that solidified her as a ground threat.

She’s shown that she can outspeed her opponents in almost all cases, and she uses her high fight IQ to find openings. This will be crucial against a fighter who likes to take fights to the scorecards.

The biggest ace up Montserrat Ruiz’ sleeve comes in through her ability to get into close range. While it wouldn’t be the best idea to remain static in this position against Buys, it will help Ruiz work a ground game. She can clearly hold her own on the canvas and will undoubtedly look to use her wide arsenal to wrap up the fight.

Prediction: Cheyanne Buys to claim a unanimous decision win.
