Donald Cerrone stepped into the octagon at UFC 246 against Conor McGregor. Without a doubt, this fight was one of the biggest fights in Cowboy’s career.
A win over Conor McGregor would have catapulted Cowboy to one of the biggest stars in UFC as we have seen with Conor’s previous opponents Nate Diaz and Khabib Nurmagomedov. If you beat Conor then things change for you drastically. However, Cowboy was not able to overcome Conor who picked up a quick victory marking his victorious return.
Fans were disappointed that Cowboy could not perform to the best of his abilities. But they were glad that after so many years of risking his life inside the octagon, taking short-notice fight to keep the show going, Cowboy got handsomely paid thanks to the fight with Conor McGregor. After all, Conor claimed that he was making $80 million from then fight.

“Hahahahah 7-10 million. I didn’t get PPV money. What the world thinks and what really happens is so different. I made flat money.”
Being one half of the main event Cerrone should have been rewarded with a portion of the PPV buys. However, it seems that he did not get a significant boost in his fight purse. It is to be noted that the PPV buys for UFC 246 went up to 1 million and Conor McGregor went home with a $3 million fight purse. However, Cowboy got a payday of only $200k.
