

UFC 247 wrapped up with the champion Jon Jones getting his hand raised. Jones was part of a very competitive fight against Dominick Reyes. Although he faced adversity in the opening rounds (1, 2 and 3) of the fight, Jones’ was able to find a way to win the later rounds (4 and 5) decisively.

However, the decision of the judges did not appeal to many fans and critics. The judging throughout the event was a blunder and many believe that the Texas Athletic Commission was at fault. Personalities such as Joe Rogan and Dominick Cruz were very vocal about the bad judging and reffing at UFC 247.

Even the President of the company Dana White was not happy with some of the decisions during UFC 247. Speaking to Caroline Pearce of BT Sport, White said: ” I had 3-1 ‘Reyes’ going into the last round”
White continued to talk about the issues with the Texas Athletic Commission. He blamed the inexperience of the judges as the UFC did not have many big events in Texas.

Dana White Gives His Thoughts on a Rematch Between Jon Jones and Dominick Reyes
Dana White acknowledged that Reyes is an extremely talented fighter. He said that Reyes knocks everyone out and it was only the fourth time he made it out of the first round.
When asked about the rematch, the President was not confident with his answer. He said: ” I don’t know. I don’t even think about that. You let these guys go home, you let them both rest, heal up then we’ll talk about what’s next. Do I think that Dominick Reyes deserves rematch? I do.”

With a performance like that, Dominick Reyes made a strong argument for an immediate rematch. However, it will take some time for the rematch to happen. Both men have sustained significant damage in their fight. Dana White even recalled an incident where Jones walked out with ice wrapped around his legs and Reyes had to be carried away by his team.

Does Jon Jones need a rematch? Maybe. He has a lot of opportunities going forward. A move to heavyweight is also an option for Jones. A fight between him and the heavyweight champion Stipe would be great for his legacy. However, being a fierce competitor, it is ideal for Jones to fight Reyes in a rematch and clear all doubts.
