Belal Muhammad is determined to fight champion Leon Edwards for the welterweight title again. The #2 ranked welterweight is on a nine-fight win streak including a short-notice fight against Gilbert Burns, which he won via a unanimous decision.

This brings us to the reason why it took Muhammad so long to get a title shot and why the UFC seemingly did everything it could to keep him from fighting the number one. The perception is that he is a boring fighter. However, it seems he will finally get to fight for the title after revealing that Dana White has promised him an Edwards fight next. Former UFC middleweight star Darren Till replied to a tweet by the Palestinian to roast him for his lackluster fighting style.

Of the 23 wins Belal Muhammad has notched up in his 27-fight professional mixed martial arts career, 17 of them, or 76%, have been secured via decision, with only 5 knockouts. Coming from a wrestling background, he employs a grappling-heavy fighting style.

Not pleased with his high decision rate and ‘boring’ fighting style, fans have often criticized the 35-year-old for his lack of finishing ability. This, many feel, has kept him from fighting for the welterweight title earlier.

There were speculations that Muhammad may fight Edwards in the main event of the UFC 300. However, his low standing among fans made the promotion look at other bouts. And the Palestinian to Twitter and said he was willing to wait until after UFC 300 to face the Englishman. “Ufc 300, 301.320 , Ramadan , tomorrow, next week ..date doesn’t matter #ANDNEW,” he wrote.

This prompted Darren Till to reply to this and call him out for being boring. “If you was fighting in my back garden I’d close the curtains,” he replied. And even as the exact timeline for his next fight remains uncertain, Muhammad has confirmed that he will go to Dagestan to prepare for the title shot.

In a recent interview, Belal Muhammad revealed that he will be heading to Dagestan, the home of Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhchev, with whom he shares a good relationship, to train for a potential upcoming fight against Leon Edwards.

The Palestinian believes that the intensity and discipline of Dagestani fighters’ training will help him sharpen his skills and get in good shape before contending for the title. Muhammad hopes to secure a finish after training in Dagestan.

“I’m planning for sure to go to Dagestan and train with those guys, like you said, to get a new look, to get different feels. Those guys don’t let you take any days off or any easy rounds. That’s always perfect for me. Last time I trained with those guys, we got a dominant finish and I plan to do the same thing,” Muhammad told MMA Junkie.
