UFC welterweight Vicente Luque submitted Michael Chiesa with a tight D’arce choke in the very first round of their contest. The fight was hectic right from the get-go and the grappling exchanges between both men was as exciting as ever. Chiesa went from having the upper hand to quickly suffering his first loss in the welterweight division.

The Jiu-Jitsu brown belt in Luque locked up a lethal D’arce choke and extend his finish rate to the upper limits of 90%. UFC 265: Vicente Luque vs Michael Chiesa: How the tables turn

Vicente Luque looked incredibly crisp on the feet and it was clear he had a good gauge of distance on his opponent. After tagging Michael Chiesa, the former TUF winner secured a clutch takedown and extended his massive frame. Chiesa is well-sized for the weight class and he’s someone who is an assassin on the ground.

Chiesa quickly attempted an RNC-to-Armbar transition and it seemed like Vicente Luque was on the verge of being finished. However, Luque is no slouch on the canvas and he quickly was able to get himself out of trouble. In fact, it was in his escape attempt that he found the opportunity to reverse position and eventually secure a submission.

Luque’s D’arce submission game is no joke and he’s looking like a legitimate threat to be a title challenger. Following his win, he called out Kamaru Usman for a title fight. However, it’s very unlikely he’ll secure the match-up anytime soon given the divisional landscape.
