Gilbert Burns took to social media and responded to critics who had plenty to say after his last fight. ‘Durinho’ faced Stephen Thompson in the co-main event for UFC 264 that went down in Las Vegas. The fight was a close contest, however, well-timed takedowns were crucial for Burns to secure the victory on the scorecards.
After the fight, UFC President Dana White was asked to share his views on the co-main event match. White wasn’t too happy with the contest and it was clear he was hoping for a higher activity rate. Gilbert Burns provided some resistance and doubled down on the fact that he fought Thompson the right way.

Traditionally, it’s been exceedingly difficult to turn in a good performance against an unorthodox fighter like Thompson. His fighting stance and the pace he puts on his opponents make it hard to figure out a decisive way to beat him. Chiefly, former champion Tyron Woodley too was slammed when he fought Thompson back in the day.
What’s next for Gilbert Burns after UFC 264?
After defeating ‘Wonderboy’, Burns called out Jorge Masvidal, Leon Edwards, and Nate Diaz to scrap. The aforementioned welterweights are the most prominent names in the division and it’s no surprise Burns wants them next. Considering he just got a title shot in his previous fight, Burns will need a few more wins to get back to contention.
