Gina Mazany takes on Brazilian up and comer Priscila Cachoeira to round off the early prelims section of UFC 262. Both women are looking to break into the top 15 of the 125-pound rankings with a statement win. Chiefly, this task is easier said than done, especially when looking at the high caliber fighters currently at flyweight.
Valentina Shevchenko has maintained a stranglehold over the division and her recent demolition of Jessica Andrade further solidified her dominance. However, new contenders are constantly emerging and Shevchenko is keen to keep the queue in rotation. The scrap between Mazany and Cachoeira will benefit greatly from its ESPN+ exposure, given its placement of the fight card.

UFC 262: Gina Mazany vs Priscila Cachoeira
Mazany is 3-4 in her 7 and is coming off a KO win over Rachael Ostovich in her last fight. ‘Danger’ lives up to her moniker and chases the finish right unto the final bell, at times to her detriment. She’ll need to be wary of her opponent getting the jump on her early into the fight and landing heavy shots.
Mazany was finished in 22 seconds by Julia Avila and her inability to be defensively sound early cost her. However, if her last fight was any indication, Gina Mazany will look to apply her patented pressure in a more rounded manner.
Priscila Cachoeira broke a three-fight skid with a win over Shana Dobson back in February 2020. Despite just having 12 fights under her belt, she’s already faced stiff competition including the likes of Valentina Shevchenko. Furthermore, that was her first UFC fight and she’ll be keen to enter a position to avenge that loss to the ‘Bullet’.

‘Pedrita’ has power in both her hands and has several KO/TKO’s on her record. Chiefly, her ability to explode with power punches in close range has always been the deciding factor in her victories thus far. Gina Mazany has the tendency to be a slow starter, and this is something Cachoeira will look to capitalize on.
Prediction: Gina Mazany to claim a unanimous decision victory
