UFC light heavyweight overview: Johnny Walker

Johnny Walker went 1-1 in 2020, picking up a win in his last outing against Ryan Spann back in September. The victory snapped a two-fight skid and brought Walker back on track to eventually contest for gold. He was on a tear in the UFC with multiple blistering KO’s under his belt early on.

However, there are certain fundamental flaws that have been exposed in his game as of late in his recent fights. Chiefly, his defensive prowess leaves plenty to be desired, and he’s in for a rough night against a sniper of the opposite stance. However, he remains lethal in the clinch as was showcased in his fight against Khalil Rountree.

Johnny Walker has all the attributes required to make a meaningful run towards the title in the 205-pound division. The weight class isn’t necessarily stacked, and it’s not impossible to come back after back-to-back losses. Not to mention, he’s got a flair to his striking offense, which always motivates the UFC to promote him.
