The preliminary card headliner at UFC 258 didn’t disappoint as Anthony Hernandez defied the odds to submit Rodolfo Vieira. The middleweights met in the middle of the cage and the fight changed course dramatically towards the end of the second round. Vieira (7-0) immediately began to impose his jiu-jitsu championship prowess, and it came in like another submission was on the way.
However, ‘Fluffy’ Hernandez went on to submit the seven-time world jiu-jitsu champion before the second round ended. Chiefly, this was possible after Rodolfo Vieira was far too fatigued to attack or even guard himself against Hernandez’s offense. The UFC broadcast team for UFC 258 comprising Joe Rogan, Jon Anik, and Daniel Cormier collectively lost their minds.

Additionally, Anthony Hernandez revealed that he broke his hand in round one and ended up having to switch things up. However, the writing was on the wall for Vieira, who barely made it back to the stool in one piece. He’ll have to make sure that he puts together a strategy to impose his will without effectively burning himself out of the contest.
