Fight Island has been the UFC’s go-to venue for live events during this pandemic. Through the latter half of last year, Yas Island witnessed several massive names compete at the Flash Forum. With the shift in venue to the newly built Etihad Arena, MMA’s biggest royalty, Conor McGregor has also arrived at the scene. On his very first day, McGregor looks ready to take over Fight Island.
Gearing up to rematch Dustin Poirier this weekend, McGregor’s arrival on Yas Island was nothing less than a spectacle in itself. Showing off his physique by going shirtless and carrying his child, McGregor turned many heads with his entry. However, just like Fight Week, the antics of the Irishman had just begun.

The former UFC double champ uploaded a video that had swagger written all over it. Through the post, ‘The Notorious One’ has only made it tougher for his fans that are eagerly waiting for him to step inside the Octagon.
Conor McGregor has the ability to polarize people like no other
Throughout his run in the UFC, McGregor has won both fans and critics. Though one can argue which one of them outnumbers the other, it’s the sheer number of them that makes him special. If you’re a combat sports fan, it’s a safe bet that you have an opinion about ‘Mystic Mac’.

Despite fighting a lot less frequently over the past few years, there has been little to no dip in his ability to draw in the numbers. The point where he stands in his fighting career right, in some ways, is akin to when he fought Poirier the first time around. If he manages to outclass ‘The Diamond’ it could prove to be the start of a run for him in the lightweight that ends with the belt around his waist.

Having said that, there is no possible scenario where McGregor should overlook the former interim champion. Poirier has grown leaps and bounds since losing to McGregor in 2014. On top of it, he has the benefit of being in the groove because he has fought a lot more compared to his opponent. Therefore, this Saturday’s event is one that the fans just cannot afford to miss out on.
