UFC megastar Conor McGregor spoke out via UFC Countdown as his main event feature against Dustin Poirier draws near. This Irishman will make his return to form following a retirement announcement that came after UFC 250. His last fight was back in January 2020, when he ran right through veteran fighter Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone.
Poirier on the other hand has remained far more consistent and continued to make waves in McGregor’s absence. Chiefly, he captured the interim lightweight championship and has knocked over several high-caliber champs. Eddie ‘The Underground King’ Alvarez and Justin Gaethje are two wins in particular that have aged very well.

‘The Notorious’ laid it all on the line rather precisely when making reference to his prediction for his upcoming bout. The former two-division champion let fans know that he was going to send Poirier out of the cage in under a minute. Moreover, it’s hard to doubt ‘Mystic Mac’ given his high hit-rate when it comes to predictions.
Additionally, McGregor’s last fight against Cerrone didn’t even last a minute as ‘Cowboy’ was halted in just 40 seconds. Fans didn’t even get a chance to internalize what had happened before Conor McGregor was getting his hand raised. Furthermore, those chaotic 40 seconds saw all kinds of offensive maneuvers, including shoulder strikes.
“I like Dustin, I think he’s a good fighter. He’s even a great fighter, but great is still levels below me. I will knock Dustin out inside 60 seconds.”

McGregor vs Poirier 1: History to repeat itself?
Dustin Poirier in turn is a slow starter and often needs a few minutes to get his bearings under the bright lights. This was clearly the case in their first fight when he looked visibly shaken when attempting to launch an attack. He will have to be wary of McGregor right from the get-go, as the Irishman likes to start fast.

McGregor’s strongest rounds are arguably round 1 and round 2, and he has lethal KO power during this period. Should the fight continue on, conventional wisdom would favor Poirier heading into the championship rounds. The fight is expected to be fireworks as the UFC makes its huge start in 2021.
