UFC women’s flyweight Miranda Maverick has made a statement in her UFC debut as she picked up a win over Liana Jojua. The end came via Doctor’s stoppage at 05:00 of the first round when Maverick landed a nasty elbow. Chiefly, “She Wolf” Jojua wanted the fight to continue, but the bleeding was too severe and the official waved off the fight.

The crushing elbow that led to the finish came off a lead elbow that came right up the middle. Liana Jojua didn’t see it coming and was caught flush with the strike. The strike was attempted on many occasions until it finally landed cleanly and busted her open. Subsequently, the fight officials had no choice but to call the fight leading to Miranda’s first octagon win.

UFC women’s flyweights: Liana Jojua vs Miranda Maverick

Liana Jojua is now 2-1 in the UFC and hasn’t actualized her early potential as of yet. Moreover, she’s been finished in the octagon in both of her losses in a decisive fashion. The 125-pound division is a shark tank, and contenders are chomping at the bit to take up marquee spots. What’s more, the UFC 254 early prelim headlining spot was her opportunity to make a big splash.

Newcomer Miranda Maverick certainly seized her spotlight moment, to say the least. Coming into the promotion, she was fresh off wins over notable contenders in women’s MMA. She beat Pearl Gonzalez and DeAnna Bennett during her Invicta FC run. Moreover, she’s displayed a wide arsenal of weapons including neck cranks and several guillotine chokes that make her a formidable threat.

Her most recent win over Liana Jojoua has put forth a new dynamic to her game, as her opponents will fear her striking. Not to mention, landing up-elbows in MMA is an exceedingly hard feat, considering the size of the gloves.
