UFC Welterweight champion Kamaru Usman had choice words for his UFC 251 opponent Jorge Masvidal ahead of their scheduled fight. The two elite fighters are set to headline the main card at Yas Fight Island in Abu Dhabi. The fight materialized on a mere 6-day notice after Gilbert Burns was denied his title shot after testing positive for COVID-19.
The new headliners for UFC 251 have no love lost between them going into their world title fight. Though the bout came into being on short notice, the fight has been building up for the better part of a year. Ever since Masvidal emerged as a top contender with three straight finishes, he has been at odds with ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’.

Kamaru Usman: “I’m going to bless him with these hands”
Amidst the tense back and forth in the media, a tenacious resentment has been built up between the 170-pounders. Kamaru Usman went after Jorge Masvidal during a recent interview with ESPN’s Brett Okamoto.
“All I’m going to say is I’m going to bless him with these hands in any way possible. Whether he’s on his back, I’ll bless him with these fists. Whether he’s standing up, I’ll bless him with these fists.”
The bad blood has reached a boiling point on more than one occasion as both fighters almost came to blows outside the cage. Earlier in the year, an unsavory interaction between Usman and Masvidal took place at a media scrum for the Super Bowl. It is evident that both athletes are looking to settle the score.

It’s up to him how he’s able to handle that. Whether he lets me bless him in the first round where there’s no more suffering, or he can take it like Covington and I’ll bless him for 24 minutes until I get him out of there.”
Fight fans are brimming with excitement as the historic Fight Island card is set to kick off. The MMA community has long been calling for a fight between the two as it offers a compelling narrative. Not to mention, the stylistic depth of the match-up is yet another element to behold.
