Dana White looks ahead for Kamaru Usman
The long-term boss of the promotion is no stranger to setting up fan-friendly bouts. As a result, he went on to all but confirm the next opponent that will square off against the Welterweight champion.
Kamaru Usman has already faced a gauntlet of killers in the 170-pound division. Ever since winning the belt, he has faced stiff opposition that offered varied looks. He’s undefeated in the UFC and on a monstrous 16 fight win streak.
“I think Gilbert Burns and Kamaru Usman is going to be a really, really good fight. A really good fight,” said Dana White.
The decision to line up ‘Durinho’ Burns for the strap comes as no surprise to the MMA world. He is ranked as the number one contender in the 170-pound weight class. Additionally, he was the original booking to scrap at UFC 251 before testing positive for COVID-19.

The Brazilian fighter was quick to express his anticipation to face-off against his friend and teammate, Usman. The built-in narrative of former training partners has long been a selling point in fight promotion.
