After the news about the cancellation of UFC 249 broke, a flood of posts hit social media. Among these posts was one by the current Bellator women’s featherweight champion, Cris Cyborg.
Cyborg never shies away from mentioning how she is enjoying her time in Bellator more than that in the UFC. She has been very outspoken about it on multiple occasions. Seemingly, it is no different this time.
Cris Cyborg took this opportunity to present her gratitude towards Bellator. She took to Twitter pointing out her distaste on the way the promotion treated one of their top fighters, Tony Ferguson. She put the blast on the UFC for failing to inform Ferguson about the status of the fight ahead of the media.

As the news broke, Ferguson was in the middle of a sit-down interview and was not privy to a courtesy call from the UFC. At first, Ferguson was a little surprised by the news. However, this is not the first time UFC 249 has thrown a curveball at El Cucuy.
Ferguson took the news in good spirits and wanted to thank Dana White for trying his best to make UFC 249 a reality.
“The constant is things are always gonna change. The variable is how am I gonna react to it? So we could throw that variable, baby, and we make that the constant. Which is why I’m gonna keep smiling, I’m gonna keep training, and you know what? I’m gonna put on some muscle. Dude, I’m skinny.”- Tony Ferguson in conversation with OCR’s Brian Martin

Initially, Ferguson was looking to take on undisputed UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. However, travel restrictions made it impossible for the Dagestani fighter to leave Russia.
At this point, Cyborg’s tune does ring true and it would be difficult to disagree with her. Considering, Ferguson has bent backward for the UFC on multiple occasions to save the UFC 249.

Ferguson not only accepted an interim title when he was actually contending for the Lightweight title. He agreed to take on one of the most dangerous fighters in the division, Justin Gaethje.
