The fight between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov fell through yet again. Following this, fans wonder whether this fight will ever happen or not. However, it seems like fellow lightweight Charles Oliveira has some clarity on this matter as MMA Fighting reports.
Ferguson and Khabib were looking to finally take each other on at UFC 249. Following four attempts in the past, this marks the fifth time the fight has been set up. However, the imposition of travel restrictions in Russia and the United States left Khabib stranded in his hometown.
This, for Oliveira, is another sign that says they won’t ever face each other in the octagon.

“I think this Khabib fight with Tony Ferguson will never happen. Something always happens, someone gets hurt. This time was the coronavirus.”- Charles Oliveira
The Dagestani fighter boasts of a spotless record, 28 fights, and 28 wins. On the other hand, Ferguson is the top contender in the division and has been looking to get his hands on the title for quite some time. However, Ferguson must wait for that opportunity to come knocking on his door again.
In the meantime, a fight with Justin Gaethje is a great opportunity, for the former interim champion, to move on to a winning streak of 13 fights. The pair are headlining UFC 249 that is looking to take place on May 9th.
Charles Oliveira on Justin Gaethje
The Brazilian fighter claims that a fight against Tony may prove to be a gargantuan task for Gaethje. Considering the circumstances the two fighters are fighting under.
“I think it would be a tough fight for Justin Gaethje. Because Tony Ferguson was training to fight the champion (and had) an opportunity to become the world champion. So he was definitely training like never before. And Justin Gaethje wasn’t training for a fight.”- Charles Oliveira

The former WSOF titleholder, Justin Gaethje is a decorated wrestler and a spectacular fighter. As of now, the 31-year-old fighter is coming off 3 consecutive wins. However, what is interesting and astonishing about that fact is all three wins were secured via TKO in the first round itself.
“Now that he has more time, he will get better prepared. We know he has heavy hands, hits really hard, so anything can happen. But I still think Tony Ferguson wins.”- Charles Oliveira
