Conor faces Donald Cerrone at the welterweight division in the upcoming UFC 246 on Jan.19 at T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas. When asked about the match-up, Khabib did not look very interested in the fight. In an interview with RT Sports, Khabib answered questions from the media. He also talked about his game plan for the fight.
“I think Cerrone lost the last seven or eight of his last ten fights. The other one is going into his fourth year of no victories. It’s like the minor leagues – it doesn’t matter who really wins there.”
Khabib also rejected Dana White’s idea of a rematch between Khabib and Conor. He added,
“I’ am surprised that Dana White is saying that if Conor beats Cerrone, and I beat Tony Ferguson, there will be a rematch. I decide who I am going to fight next.”
Khabib also talked about Conor’s welterweight return and the difference the weight cut will make coming into the rematch. He trashed Cerrone ahead of his fight against McGregor and called it a “Minor League.” He rested the idea of a rematch by claiming,
“To fight me, he has to cut weight first, down to 70kg. And win ten fights in a row as I did. Then we’ll think about a rematch. But for now, he can fight second-rate fighters who lose seven out of ten fights at 77kg.”
