Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel led a lights to flag victory at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal. Behind him were Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas and Red Bull driver Max Verstappen. Vettel remained largely untroubled for the entire race but Bottas began to fall into Max’s clutches by the end of the race.

Meanwhile, for 4th and 5th, Daniel Ricciardo and Lewis Hamilton were locked in their own duel. Raikkonen was having his own race in 6th ahead of the rest of the pack. At the start of the race, everyone got through the first corner unscathed, then came the chaos.

Brendon Hartley tried a move round the outside of Lance Stroll but was squeezed into the wall. Stroll himself had lost control of his Williams and both drivers were out of the race.

After the safety car, things settled down for a bit, with the only other casualty being Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard, racing in his 300th GP was forced to retire with a mechanical issue.

There were issues in the end as well when the chequered flag was flown before the actual ending of the race. The flag is meant to mark the end of the race and instead of lap 70, it was flown at lap 69 due to a miscommunication caused by the FIA. The flag was waved by model Winnie Harlow, who was a Mercedes guest. As a part of the regulations, the standings till lap 68 were considered, which caused no major shake up apart from the fastest lap of the race title being given to Max Verstappen instead of Daniel Ricciardo.

Other than that, there was nothing particularly exciting. There were barely any overtakes in a circuit that has largely hosted exciting races.

The fans on Twitter weren’t too happy with the snooze fest the race was. Here are some of the best tweets that summed up the Canadian Grand Prix:
