The business end of this year’s US Open finally delivered on the expectations after 10 days of pretty mediocre game of tennis, in terms of dramatics and entertainment. The last major of the year had not been helped by the withdrawal of the most famous player on court before it even began and then saw plenty of matches being cut down due to walkovers and injuries.
Three huge matches lined up the Wednesday schedule at New York and the first time quarterfinalists Pliskova and Konjuh featured in the least anticipated match of the day, where Pliskova made light work of the teenager from Croatia, winning 6-2 6-2.
This was followed by the blockbuster Nishikori vs Murray, where the Japanese wonder kid pulled off an upset sending the tournament favorite Andy Murray home, in a thrilling 5 set encounter that saw neither of them playing at their finest.

Serena Williams took on Simona Halep for a place in the semis and after a grueling match, she survived in three sets.
The final match featured the biggest forehand vs the biggest backhand on men’s tour as Stan Wawrinka looked to avenge his Wimbledon defeat against the wildcard Juan Martin del Potro.
Naturally, twitter world went bananas over these matches and finally had something that glittered their eyes after an underwhelming US OPEN till now.

Disappointing loss for #Murray with poor serving & mental lapses. Can't always play ones best. But credit to #Nishikori for taking advantage

#Nishikori is the one man who, on his day, can defy all the unofficial rules of ATP tennis. Really, #Murray should probably be winning this.
