The defending runner-up Serena Williams once again fails to cross the finishing line as she bows down to the 19-year-old Bianca Andreescu in straight sets 6-3, 7-5 in 1 hour and 40 minutes at the US Open 2019 finals on Saturday.
With this victory, Bianca Andreescu became the first Canadian women to win a Grand Slam title in the open era. She also becomes the first teenager to win a major title since Maria Sharapova in 2006. While the 23-time major champion has now lost her last eight sets in the Grand Slam finals.
After winning the championship point, Andreescu fell flat on the court before climbing up to the stands to celebrate her victory with her parents.
